Oscar Wilde once said “Work is the curse of the drinking class”. Well it’s my opinon that no one making music today quite embodies that sentiment as much as Free Radio, and perhaps this song more than any. The title of their latest single seems pretty self explanitory. “Payroll” is kind of a modern day interpritation of Tenessee Ernie Ford’s “16 Tons”, if you catch my drift. Which I’m guessing you don’t since you’re not an octogenarian. Nonetheless, the song is a brilliant account of the bitter pill most people in this country are swallowing on a daily basis as the overworked & underpaid “heros” of the American salt mine. It’s the lead single from Free radio’s debut full-length Powers That Be and will be followed up by some videos in the near future. So grab this single for your ipod, take it to work and put it on blast while your considering whether or not to choke someone from middle management to sleep if they take that tone with you again. Because as another great philosopher of the late 20th century once asked “Is it in bad taste to wish that your boss would get ass raped?”
Ladies & Gentlemen, THE musical extravaganza of the summer is almost upon us. The Epic mini-festival inside a festival known as Gurp Fest 2012 will undoubtedly make affairs the likes of Bonaroo & the rest seem like turds in a punch bowl. And rightly so, as the awesome power of the Gurp City crew is leveled against the livers of Asheville, during it’s biggest public celebration of the year known as Belle Chere. Beginning Friday July 27th and continuing on to Saturday the 28th, the Emerald Lounge will be presenting members of both the NC & San Francisco branches of the Olympic drinking team known as Gurp City. The line up includes Z-Man, TopR, Weekend Cult, Eddie K, GFE, Foul Mouth Jerk, Free Radio, Al lover & The Haters, as well as a myriad of DJ’s, special guests, hot dog vendors and other various delights. But there will be NO, and I cannot stress this enough, NO fire jugglers/dancers and No fucking hula hoops. Please be sure to pack at least one extra liver, and a change of clothes, as you will surely shit your socks.

Fist Fam, Foul Mouth Jerk, TopR, The Ville Boyz, DJ Football & Youngin Go Hard invite you to their ALL AGES Christmas Party 2011 at the Grey Eagle. Dec. 29
As the summer of GurpStock comes to a close, we end it by blowing the cap stone off the motherfucker. The Fist Fam returned home for the wedding of GCS’s stalwart crew DJ, Football (you may recall him from his picture, curled up on the floor in front of the toilet in another post on this site). And we felt this would be the perfect opportunity for the whole crew to get together for our first all Gurp City South bill at Asheville’s largest music venue The Orange Peel.
As usual the weekend started early, on Thursday night with the 2 year anniversary episode of our radio show “Wost Case Scenario” with an all star cast of guests and former staff members of the show. The night was nearly spoiled by the misguided caper of one kleptomaniacal floozy once again proving that you can’t trust a big butt & a smile attempting to Ocean’s 11 a pair of 12 packs out of my fridge. Lucky for me I am the Lester Freemon of the sauce, and thwarted this silly bitch’s misbegotten heist before a clean get away could be made.
Miraculously though the weekend was a daisy chain of benders, climaxing on Saturday with DJ Football’s wedding immediately followed by the Gurp City South show the entire crew managed to make it to show time with their collective game face on and destroy all four sets. Details of after partying will remain undisclosed to protect the guilty. But on behalf of myself, Fist Fam, The Ville Boyz, TopR Holiday, Adam Strange, Chris Denato and Macon Beats we would like to thank everybody who came out to support the show and congratulate DJ & Jessica Football on an awesome wedding.

3 more shows with The Artifacts and another job well done by what I like to call “The Greatest Show on Drugs”, though this time the lion’s share of the devastation was done by tequila & Jameson. While the name of this tour has been “Back Up On the Scene”, this particular leg of it should have been known as Vomi-Tour-ium. In Greenville, SC the notorious DJ Football began the night with four consecutive shots of Patron, while the goodly people of the audience assaulted the stage with complimentary shot after beer during our performance. I lost count somewhere around the 12th can of PBR & the 15th shot of Jamie.
I am proud to say that I broke a personal record, vomiting 3 times on stage & miraculously not fumbling a verse. After our set someone literally asked me if barfing on stage was “my gimmick”, as if being some kind of rap G.G. Allen was now hot in the streets (fuck, I’m so out of touch with current culture it just might be). And while walking past some chick near the restrooms she pointed at the twin glops of regurge on my shirt & asked “eewww, what’s that?” I simply responded “A lifestyle”.
But alas I have to award the Gurp Trophy to DJ Football, aka Bitch Ninja, aka Kool DJ Yellow Alert, etc. For needing his girl to drive him home from the club & having her pull over six times in one hour to earl on the side of the highway. Upon his return home, curling up on the cool comfort of the bathroom floor next to his Racer X magazine & letting the spins lull him into sweet dreams of motorcycle porn… Oh yeah also there was some music played in between there somewhere.
Big shouts to Jessica for getting our DJ home safely & then snapping the appropriate photo as he wallowed in his self-inflicted wounds.
